Chapter 2 A System Architecture for Knowledge-Based Monitoring

A general overview of the system architecture for knowledge-based monitoring of in-tegrated networks is presented. A performance oriented model of integrated networksis introduced. A Tra c Control Architecture (TCA) for management and control ofnetwork resources is proposed. The proposed TCA ts into an integrated referencemodel for network management and control. A model for network monitoring is pre-sented where the network is viewed as the controlled system and the TCA as thecontrolling system. The architecture of the network monitor consists of a knowledgedatabase and an inference engine. The inference engine consists of two parts: adeductive inference processor and a statistical inference processor.
